CARDIONCOLOGY.ORG ABSTRACT:
This article discusses the many faceted goals of palliative care and the importance of these to patients with complex disease or who are in the end-of-life stage.
The authors note that to date there are no studies of palliative care interventions specific to cardio-oncology despite the fact that the interaction of cardiovascular and oncologic disease processes makes the role of the cardio-oncologist in the delivery of palliative care even more salient, particularly when a patient has advanced cardiac disease and is diagnosed with cancer.
The article discusses the integration of palliative care in cardio-oncology, identifying specific barriers, gaps, and opportunities.
