CARDIONCOLOGY.ORG ABSTRACT:
This article investigates the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD)—stroke and myocardial infarction—and congestive heart failure (CHF) in patients 65 years and older with colorectal cancer and elucidate the roles of cancer therapy and pre-existing conditions on these risks.
Results indicate that older patients with colorectal cancer are at increased risk of developing CVD and CHF. Furthermore, diabetes and hypertension interact with chemotherapy to increase the risk of cardiovascular morbidity.
